Grunley successfully completed renovations and additions to Fairfax High School. The project consisted of the renovation of 350000 square feet of existing school space and the construction of three new additions totaling 73000 square feet and extensive sitework. The renovation portion of the contract updated 11 areas of the school building five of the areas were classroom space with the remaining spaces made up of athletic locker rooms the main gym cafeteria auditorium and an auto shop. The first of three additions is a one-story 8000 square foot space consisting of seven new classrooms. This addition was one of the architectural highlights of the project consisting of a two-story light monitor and curtain wall system at the main entrance. This design element was utilized throughout all three new additions on the building. The second addition is a 24000 square foot science wing consisting of 12 laboratory spaces and teachersoffices. The third addition is two-stories 41000 square feet and located at the front of the school which serves as the main entrance to the building. It contains all the administrative offices of the school the new media center and the library space.
